A lot of people ask me how I got started with Beachbody.  Not the coaching, just as a customer.  So here’s my story.  And maybe you’ll understand a little bit about me and why I’m so passionate about helping others find their TRIBE too.

I was one of those rare people who purchased a Beachbody program and completed the whole 90-day program from start to finish and had AMAZING results.  Alone.  No Coach.  No Shakeology.  No support.  No accountability group.

People who buy a workout program online or through an infomercial have every intention of doing it….and getting the results “as seen on TV”.  But reality sets in.  Many don’t even take it out of the box.  Most don’t finish.  And those that do, really have found that it’s more than JUST a workout program.  It’s the combination of exercise + nutrition + support.  And the final step…recognition.  Something I was missing.

You see after being a competitive athlete all throughout school, I was used to being “On A Team”.  But after school ended, so did my active lifestyle.  And as I moved out, grew up, lived alone, and had to start “adulting”, nutrition and exercise were not on my priority list.  So I gained weight.  Slowly, over the years until I was sitting at 210# at my heaviest.  Body aches all over, feeling like crap, exhausted every night.  I also smoked.  For almost 20 years, but one day woke up, decided enough was enough and I quit smoking.  OMG that was hard.  But it was so worth it.

I didn’t want to gain any more weight (like a lot of people do when they quit smoking) so I joined Weight Watchers and successfully lost almost 50#. To this day I tell people Weight Watchers works.  But it doesn’t teach you how to eat healthy…just less.  I also started exercising.  And since I was too embarrassed to step foot in a gym, I started walking, just around the block with my dog at first, and then a little further each day until we were covering over 3 miles.  I was starting to feel good, so turned my walks into runs, and eventually could run the 3 miles no problem.  And then I started adding miles.

After I was tired of paying Weight Watchers, I took to counting calories on MyFitnessPal. I met some fit friends, learned some tricks along the way, and kept the weight off.  The tracking became an obsession.  One I detested, but one I couldn’t stop because it worked.  But I found myself in a vicious cycle of eating great during the week and then falling apart on the weekends.  And whenever I wanted pizza and beer, or other “cheat meals”, I’d run extra miles to burn them off. I was what you’d call skinny fat.  The scale told me what I wanted to hear, but I still wasn’t comfortable in my skin.

The next few years after that were a blur.  In addition to counting calories, I tried it all: crossfit, gym, personal trainer, yoga, hot yoga, more running, belly dancing, ZUMBA…the list goes on and on.  And then my very first Beachbody program which finally took my “skinny body” into a toned, tight, sexy body I could be proud of.

Shortly after I completed the 90 day program, I was approached by a friend to do an “Online Challenge Group”. She said we would workout, eat healthy, and check in together for accountability.


I was craving more healthy people to surround myself and this sounded perfect.  But you gotta do a Beachbody workout and drink Shakeology she said.  Oh, I’m already doing Beachbody I said.  Well no wonder you look so amazing, she replied.

We talked about my goals, and she recommended a new program that would allow me to lift weights in my basement (which I loved to do), and still run on alternating days.  I was SOLD.

Except this Shakeology.

I really didn’t want to do it.  But she said it’s part of the complete package and any time you cut calories, you cut nutrition, and when you cut nutrition, your body starts to go into starvation mode.  It started to make sense that I was literally starving my body during the week and why I was constantly binging on the weekends.  Only to wake up every Monday morning and start the vicious cycle again.

So I went for it.  What did I have to lose?  And I feel in love.  With ALL of it.  The workouts were awesome.  I didn’t LOVE Shakeology the first few times I had it, but we tried some different recipes, and now I can’t imagine a day without it.  What I found out was if I could put at least one healthy thing in my body every day, I was better at making healthy choices ALL throughout the day.  And on days I wasn’t my best, at least it was something that filled the gaps.  I noticed a difference in my overall energy, digestion, stopped getting sick, and generally just felt amazing pretty much every day.  ESPECIALLY when I drank it every day, and the longer I drank it.

The groups were what really sealed the deal for me, and like I mentioned what attracted me to it in the first place.  And I always love a little competitive challenge so any opportunity to push myself to do better and win some PRIZES, I’m in!

Attached are some before an after’s from a 3-week Beachbody program I completed that was focused exclusively on Nutrition.  Not a lick of exercise.  Which proves to me once again, nutrition is really 80% of our success.  I notice most the belly bloat is greatly reduced, the cellulite is almost non-existent, and my skin is flawless.

I have completed over a dozen Beachbody challenges since that first Challenge my coach had invited me to. And I will keep doing Challenges as long as there are workouts + nutrition including Shakeology + a group to support me.  I am so grateful my coach reached out to me, and that I said YES because I don’t know where I’d be with my health and fitness without these Challenge Groups and Beachbody.

I think a 90 day program is REALLY hard to complete, even WITH a coach, Shakeology, and a Challenge Group.  Not everyone has it in them to do so.

Not Another Monday…

Do you know how many people are living in the same house they were living in 5 years ago?

You Don’t Have To Be A Size 2 To Inspire Others

Truth in the fact that you don’t have to have a Transformation Story to be a great inspiration to others.  This gal is one of the coaches in our team and I hope you watch her video and/or read her post…and realize you are not alone.  No matter what size you are, if you are working towards a better you, you are a winner.

“To have Beachbody share my story with 293+K coaches and the world is one of the highlights of my life during the quarterly Super Saturday in April 2015. As a plus size woman on a journey to fit, my hope, when I started, was to inspire one person by sharing my journey. To share what it looked like, sounded like, to show a body with a belly, modifications, hope, and empowerment. All of this was born out of frustration because I could not find someone like me sharing their journey, only their after. I didn’t want to hate myself. I wanted to give back to a body that saved me from many layers of pure hell… My body didn’t fail me in the 150 lbs I gained. It found a way to SAVE me. Now I am giving back by focusing on a healthier life. I knew if I was searching, others were too.

We are not a before, we are not an after, we are forever a work in progress. It is a journey. Embrace the struggle. I didn’t understand why we went through all we did. My Beachbody coach experience started with one person who was just supportive, and that opened up a whole new world of people to me. We would not be where we are today if we didn’t commit to just moving our bodies, if our coach didn’t tell us about the discount, or if he was shy to tell me about coaching (regardless of HOW bad my attitude was at the time, LOL). Medical Lab Results Update

“So yesterday I received my updated lab results for all of my medical labs. Needless to say I do not understand all the results but I will highlight the most important ones here. My original labs were done at my last checkup on September 25th 2014. The updated results are from April 17th 2015. I changed diet, exercise and added Shakeology on February 9th 2015. Not sure what has caused the most benefit but I am not giving up any one of the three. My medication did not change in this time period.

Cholesterol – Before : 211mg/dl – After : 121mg/dl
Triglycerides – Before : 231mg/dl – After : 61mg/dl
HDL – Before : 34mg/dl – After : 38mg/dl
LDL – Before : 131mg/dl – After : 71mg/dl
Chol/HDL Ratio – Before : 6.2 – After : 3.2
Glucose – Before : 112mg/dl – After : 89mg/dl
TSH (thyroid) – Before : 5.06mclU/hL – After : 0.75mclU/hL

Even medicated I was outside of normal levels in almost all categories. I am now completely within normal levels on everything. This has been accomplished with 2.5 months of daily exercise, moderate diet, and a Shakeology shake every day. My doctor said he has never seen results turn around this fast.

We are scheduled for a follow up in 2 weeks to adjust all of my medications down. I have been medicated for Cholesterol and Thyroid since I was 27 years old (14 years ) I am on the path to reduce or discontinue these medications. This is monthly copays that I will no longer need to pay. The cost savings because of this will be amazing. (monthly cost savings) I can not urge you enough to act now to get healthy. This Makes Me So Happy I Could Cry

One of my challengers posted this on our team page recently.

Sunset2“I had my well check today at the doctor. Over the summer, I decided to stop
taking my cholesterol meds, I just didn’t want to take them anymore, concerned about some of the latest research out. The problem is that I didn’t discuss this with my MD. I had my labs checked the end of January. My bad cholesterol, triglycerides and total cholesterol were elevated, however my “good” cholesterol was phenomenal. I panicked, thinking I messed up. I came clean to my doctor today and was totally shocked with the outcome. He said, “I’m glad you told me you went off your meds, actually, you are out of the range that it would be recommended to treat. You have made great changes with your diet and exercise, you no longer need to be on meds.” I also had one of the best checkups I’ve ever had. Wow, what a relief! With family history, etc, I know how important it is for me to continue on this journey of healthy eating and exercising. I’m glad to have this group to help keep me accountable.

I guess this is also a testament to people out there that think they are doomed to be on meds for the rest of their lives, whether it’s for cholesterol, blood pressure or diabetes. Diet and exercise go a long way towards overall health.”

Note:  She chose to go off her meds this past summer, before she became involved in our group. I am not a doctor, and I do not give medical advice.  She actually works in the medical industry and chose to do these things on her own, listened to her own body.  She started drinking Shakeology daily last fall, was active with running and gym workouts in the past, and now has also incorporates Beachbody workouts like PiYo and ChaLEAN Extreme to give her more muscle definition.

I am just pleased that she no longer needs to be on prescription drugs to control her cholesterol.  And she shows up every day to our group to check in with her workout, her Shakeology, and her nutrition for the day.  She obviously feels REALLY good!

21 Day Fix Extreme CEO Results









So these are the results for our CEO Carl Daikeler’s 21 days of the 21 Day Extreme workout and nutrition plan.  He is 8 lbs down doing one round of 21 Day Fix Extreme and following the Countdown to Competition nutrition plan. He says he feels “way stronger and more agile than he was just three weeks ago. Not bad for a 51 year old dude!

He followed this thing to the letter. And while he was not overweight (thanks to monthly rounds of the 3-Day Refresh), he was definitely not in shape when he started. The first week was REALLY hard for him, but he’s pretty pleased with how fast he adapted. This version of the portion-controlled food plan took a lot of discipline and is probably not something he would repeat… But he’d say it is exactly what we wanted to provide people who want to see the most dramatic visible results possible in 3 weeks.

Yoga’s Healing Powers

This video has crossed my newsfeed on more than one occasion, and I cry every time.  Please watch this 4 minute video…all the way to the end and see how this almost crippled man was helped by someone willing to teach him yoga, and how it changed his life.

I started going to an occasional yoga class in 2010 when I started running. When you go from very inactive to active 5-6 days a week, your body does need time to stretch and heal itself.  I suffered from some pretty painful IT band issues and used yoga as a way to relive some of the pain.

Now I continue to stretch / foam roll / attend yoga classes as a way to keep injuries at bay, alleviate sore muscles, and clear my head.  A vigorous 2 hour yoga class not only burns a ton of calories, it leaves my mind and my body feeling refreshed and ready to take on a new day.

I would practice yoga every day if I had enough time.  But I love running, and swimming, and all other sorts of exercises too much to limit myself to just one.  I’m glad Arthur had a teacher that was willing to be patient and help him.  He changed a life for sure.  I will love coming back to this video over and over.
